iLmFest 2015 | Shaykh Yasir Qadhi - Light Upon Light

SURAH AN - NUR ( 24 : 35 )
  • Allah is the light of the Heaven and the earth. He leads you to the light of guidance.Another interpretation of this verse is the one who gave us light through the sun, moon etc.
  • If Allah had given you perpetual darkness, then who could give light? and if He gave you perpetual light, who could give night? Blue water nourishes green trees which we kindle into red fire, Sight and light are immense blessings.
  • According to the hadith the 1st person to write with Pen was Prophet Idris pbuh. Allah taught Adam to speak, and Nabi Dawud to bend metals. HE(Allah) is the source of guidance & fight as knowledge. The 3rd interpretation is something less simple that Allah is literally The light.
  • On the Day of Judgement , the Earth will be lit with the Noor of Allah himself. Allah has hijab - a veil made of light, that screes Him from our sight. If Allah were to lift the veil, the rays from His face would burn all that His eyes see. Hadith in sahih muslim.
  • Has the Prophet S.A.W seen Allah? No, during isra' mikraj he saw nothing but light. He only saw Allah Hijab.
  • The understanding of the metaphor is that Guidance is the heart of the believer is a light within a niche. The niche may be understood to be the heart of the believer, the light itself is guidance.
  • The crystal itself like a bright & shining star. The lamp is lit by oil from olive tree which is high quality.
  • Each layer within the lamp is radiant on its own. but exponentially so when combined. the niche is the chest. The glass is the heart, fragile but hard.transperant but impenetrable unless broken.
  • The heart of the believer has within a crystal bright as a star. The oil is Iman - coming neither from East or West, but from Allah.
  • I have never ever understood this verse before. It is such a beautiful metaphor. Jannah is across a bridge(sirat) sharper than a razor, thinner than a hair in total darkness except for whatever light is in your heart.
  • Those whose hearts are blazing will find the way bright and cross the bridge at the speed of light itself.
  • Those with less light will cross cautiously and those with insufficient light wont be able to find their way across.
During a short interview after the talk Sh Yasir Qadhi was asked by Boona Mohamed on her relationship with his wife, he added to this topic about relationship with women and Nur that brings to the home of a man. He says :
  • Wallahi you cannot be successful unless you are blessed with a loving and successful partner. Successful marriage is not one without arguments but one where there's more ups than downs.
  • If you're single, remember that your decision who to marry is the most important decision you'll make in your life. It's easier to change your career than your spouse. Don't rush, make dua, and pick wisely. Don't base your entire relationship on external beauty, strive for internal beauty and akhlaq. A wife with beautiful akhlaaq will sweeten your life. A beautiful women without akhlaaq will destroy it. And it's the same for brothers, marry a brother for character, not income.
